I honestly never thought I'd get the chance, but last night Christopher and I saw Thomas Dolby perform at the Fenix here in Seattle. It was an amazing show of thumping music, interesting sound and video technology, and Dolby's nice-guy wit and charm. It was easy to see how much he enjoys peforming...he's completely at home surrounded by his consoles, but he also takes the time to step out of The Rig and chat a bit. The crowd was an interesting mix of young 'uns, older folks, a goth or two, some obvious 80's fans, and hyperexcited geeks. I'm a geek in many ways, but these folks were downright worshipful, and that was fun to see. Dolby is one of music's original geeks, and I'm happy to have seen him do his thing.
This is about all we had to see for 4 hours before TD came on. Well, there was an opening act, but I think most of us were still gazing hungrily at The Rig.
